Abstract
Specimens of the labyrinthodont amphibians Platyhystrix rugosus and Chenoprosopus cf. C. milleri and the pelycosaurian reptile Edaphosaurus cf. E. novomexicanus have been found in El Cobre Canyon, Rio Arriba County, northern New Mexico, Directions are given to this classic collecting area. These additions to the faunal list of this canyon greatly reinforce the previous evidence for early Permian age of the fossiliferous upper Paleozoic beds there. The primitive nature of the cotylosaurian reptile Limnoscelis paludis, known only from El Cobre Canyon, may not regarded as indicative of age older than early Permian.
