Arthur James Boucot, 93, a world-renown brachiopod expert, paleobiogeographer, and evolutionary paleoecologist passed away April 10, 2017, in Denver, Colorado, during an operation for congestive heart failure. Masterful in Siluro-Devonian biostratigraphy, he also developed paleocommunity evolution with his concept of ecological-evolutionary units, and, with Jane Gray, pushed back the origination of vascular plants by 40 Ma at the time of their discovery.
