Savage (1995, p. 550, figure 8.8, 8.9) named a conodont Polygnathus praetrigonicus from the Middle Devonian Wadleigh Limestone, southeastern Alaska. This name is now known to be a junior homonym of Polygnathus praetrigonicusBardashev (1992, p. 56, 57, pl. 2, figs. 32–34), a taxon from the Middle Devonian of the Zeravshan Range, southern Tien-Shan. The southeastern Alaskan fossil is clearly a different species and I here rename it as Polygnathus bagialensis after Port Bagial, near Alberto Island from where the holotype of the species was collected.
