Substantial studies of paleoecological and paleoenvironmental significance reported in this publication reflect the distance that ichnology has come over the last few decades, as a discipline, from the initial stages of simple descriptions and reporting on individual traces. For example, the authors show convincingly that ichnofaunas are controlled to some degree by preservational type, facies distribution, and paleogeography.
