It is my great pleasure to introduce this year's Paleontological Society Medal recipient, Alan H. Cheetham. Alan is a Senior Research Paleobiologist and Curator of Invertebrate Paleontology at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. But the road to the Smithsonian started long before with his B.S. degree at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. From there he went to Louisiana State University for his Masters. Alan's formal research career began with his Ph.D. dissertation at Columbia University as a student of Norman Newell. His dissertation on the Late Eocene zoogeography of the eastern Gulf Coast region...
