Abstract

Nearly complete right and left major chelipeds and fragments of a minor cheliped, collected from a glacial boulder near Mt. Discovery form the basis for description of a new species of anomuran decapod, Callianassa symmetrica. An Eocene age, based on associated palynomorphs, is probable. Although the specimen was not collected from rocks in place, it is quite significant in that it represents the first record of fossil decapods from eastern Antarctica.--Modified journal abstract.
