Abstract

Atlantes of cf. Piceoerpeton (family Scapherpetontidae) are reported from the Lance and Hell Creek formations of Wyoming and Montana. Although smaller, they otherwise show only subtle differences from atlantes of Tertiary Piceoerpeton willwoodense. It is not possible to refer other skeletal parts to these atlantes. A single atlas of a new species or genus from the Upper Milk River formation of Alberta is described and referred to the family Batrachosauroididae. This new material increases the known diversity of salamanders from the North American Upper Cretaceous, but still samples aquatic, derived lineages.--Journal abstract.
