Abstract

Concentric color banding was observed on both valves of a single specimen of Tellina scitula Meek and Hayden from the Fox Hills Formation of Maestrichtian age from Sioux County, North Dakota. A specimen of Dosiniopsis deweyi showed a faint indication of a color pattern but was too poorly preserved to be described. The find represents the first fossil tellinid to show color patterns andthe first bivalve from the Fox Hills with coloration.
