Abstract

Des Moinesian rocks of New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado yield a distinctive fossil referred with question to the red algal genus Komia Korde by J. H. Johnson (1960, 1961). Five surface occurrences are reported here; localities in north-central Texas and southwestern Colorado are eastward and northward extensions of the previously recorded geographic range. Komia? sp. is also common in the subsurface Lower Strawn of West Texas. Wilson, Waines, and Coogan (1963) has assigned Komia to the hydrozoan order Stromatoporoidea.
