Abstract

A new conodont genus, Platyvillosus, with type species P. asperatus, n. sp., is described from the southeast end of the Butte Mountains in White Pine County, Nev. More than 60 specimens have been obtained from a Lower Triassic carbonate sequence. Limestones higher in the sequence contain the Early Triassic ammonoid Meekoceras. Rocks considered equivalent at other localities in the Great Basin have not yielded the same conodonts, but this fauna is assumed to be older than Triassic auna described previously.
