Abstract

The taxonomic history of one of Marsh's early [Cretaceous] dinosaurs is presented. Initially assigned to the hadrosaurs, this species has been considered a ceratopsian for more than 70 yr. Examination of the type reaffirms its hadrosaurian affinities and comparison with other members of that family indicates a close relationship with Lambeosaurus lambei. On this evidence, the species is removed from the genus Hadrosaurus and reassigned to Lambeosaurus.
