Abstract

The discovery of a new species of Cothurnocystis (C. americana, n. sp.) and of an undetermined species of Phyllocystis in the Whipple Cave Formation (Trempealeau Stage, Upper Cambrian) of Nevada constitutes the first record of the carpoid order Cornuta in the western hemisphere. These 2 forms and an associated member of the order Soluta are the oldest known representatives of the 2 mentioned genera and of the order Soluta.
