Abstract

A group of middle Carboniferous chonetid brachiopods, which can be distinguished externally from Chonetes by their well developed lamellose growth lines and weak radial lirae are assigned to the new genus Quadranetes. Included in this genus, of which the type species is Chonetes dominus King, are Chonetes Oklahomensis Snider, Chonetes suttoni Branson, Chonetes tumescens var. and possibly Chonetes pseudoliratus Easton and Chonetes kingi Elias. The known range of species of the genus is confined to Namurian "Series" of the upper Carboniferous.
