Abstract

Restudy of the Mississippian blastoid genera Cryptoblastus, Lophoblastus, and Schizoblastus has revealed that the diagnosis of the structure of Cryptoblastus should be emended to include a superdeltoid, 2 cryptodeltoids (hidden), and a hypodeltoid. The diagnosis of Lophoblastus is emended from 8 spiracles and an anispiracle to spiracles and a separate anus, and the genus transferred from the family Granatocrinidae to the family Schizoblastidae. Some blastoid species described before 1904 have since been placed in Schizoblastus, but it is impossible to tell from published descriptions and illustrations what their true generic position is.
