Abstract

"Upper Devonian conodonts from two localities in the Tindouf basin of northern Spanish Sahara are placed in 18 genera and 35 species. These conodonts occur in greater abundance and diversity of species than the other Devonian occurrences previously reported from northern Africa but appear to be of the same age. Collectively the fauna compares closely to those of classic areas in central Europe and serves to establish the age of the enclosing strata as Frasnian. No conodonts were obtained from various limestones containing ammonoids of middle Devonian age. Silurian conodonts from four localities in northern and central Spanish Sahara are comparable to faunas from central Europe and southern Spain." Spathognathodus dubius n.sp. is included among the forms systematically described.
