Abstract

The geologic position of the Hurricane lentil in the lower Cook Mountain Formation of middle Eocene age is reviewed and exposures mentioned. The geographic location in E. Texas and additions to its previously known extent, discovered by the author, are pointed out. All published lists of fossils collected from the lentil are reproduced in chronologic order. Reports of the presence of Harpactocarcinus americanus Rathbun by Stenzel, 1935; Protocetus sp. by Remington Kellogg, 1936; and Tubulostium sp. by Gardner, 1938 are included. The author has included a list, prepared by him, of the 15 species for which the lentil is "Type Locality." A final list presents the species collected from Alabama Ferry and deposited at the Bureau of Economic Geology, Austin, Texas.
