Abstract

The known fauna of the Cambrian Hungerford slate (Cedaria zone) consists of 6 species. All previous references to fauna in the Hungerford are actually to the older Skeels Corners slate except for references to the graptolite Dictyonema schucherti. Species present in the formation, in addition to D. schucherti, are the trilobites Catillicephala ovoides and "Elrathia" longa, the brachiopods Lingulella franklinensis and Lingulepis vermontensis, and a problematical specimen referred to Pseudomatthevia?. The nomenclatural history and stratigraphic positions of Dictyonema schucherti and D. vermontensis, of the Lower Ordovician Highgate formation, which have previously been confused, are reviewed.
