Abstract

Lithostrotionella jasperensis Kelly, which occurs in the Banff Formation in southern Alberta, the lower Prophet Formation of northeastern British Columbia, and the Joana Limestone of Nevada, appears to be conspecific with L. confluens Easton from the Represo and Venada limestones of northern Mexico, and L. circinatus from the Redwall Limestone of Arizona. L. jasperensis is the senior synonym. Lithostrotion (Lithostrotionella?) microstylum White from the Chouteau of Missouri may be the senior synonym of all 3. Final designation of this species as senior synonym must await the collection of better preserved topotypes. These species of corals are important in intracontinental correlation within the Lower Mississippian (high Kinderhookian-low Osagean) of North America.
