Abstract

Interbedded Middle Ordovician quartzite and carbonate rocks of the Independence Quadrangle, Inyo Mountains, are here named the Johnson Spring formation. Correlation with the Eureka quartzite of the Great Basin is based on lithologic similarity and stratigraphic position. The carbonate rocks of the Johnson Spring formation contain a large fauna in which corals are predominant. New species are listed.
