Abstract

Study of Recent foraminiferal faunas in bottom sediments of the shelf and upper continental slope showed that the total number of specimens, the number of species, and the percentage of planktonic forms increase with depth and distance from shore. The composition, areal distribution, and depth, temperature, and salinity ranges of the five dominant bathymetric faunas are outlined, and descriptions of two new varieties are given.
