Abstract

Didymotis is a potentially valuable guide fossil in view of its wide (possibly world-wide) geographic distribution but restricted stratigraphic range (middle late Cretaceous). It is known from South America and Japan, and because of its close resemblance to some species of Inoceramus and Posidonia may also be represented under other names than Didymotis in collections from other regions.
