Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) study of Peninsular Gneiss from Dharwar Craton (Southern India) that has visible foliation but no stretching lineation. EBSD data of quartz were generated in a thin section prepared parallel to the principal plane of the Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility (AMS) ellipsoid that contains the maximum (K1) and minimum (K3) axis (a), (b) and (c) show photomicrograph, inverse pole figure EBSD map, and quartz crystallographic axes pole figures, respectively. The study highlights that K1K3 plane of the AMS ellipsoid can be equated with XZ section of the strain ellipsoid to carry out kinematic analysis in S-tectonics. See Mamtani et al. (this issue) for details (https: 10.1007/s12594-017-0657-0)
