We thank Mark B. Allen for giving us the opportunity to strengthen our case for the 41 Ma Piranshahr Massif postdating the collision of the Arabian and Iranian plates in the Sanandaj–Sirjan Zone in the Zagros orogen (Mazhari et al. 2009). Because of his suggestion that the Piranshahr Massif is not a reliable tectonic marker and that, based on regional reasoning, the collision must have been considerable younger, we are permitted to elaborate on the reasoning behind, and provide further evidence for, the interpretation of our new geochemical and geochronological data.
