The Kaluwe complex, a stratified sheet-like body of volcaniclastic carbonatite has given K-Ar ages of 113–101 Ma. The carbonatite overlies Upper Karoo sandstone, but its cover of continental siliciclastic sediments is not Karoo as previously thought, but post-dates the carbonatite. The complex is interpreted as a relict of the distel deposits of a large, long–long lived carbonite volcano.
