This paper contains the results of a geological and structural survey in the area of Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples (Central-Southern Sicily, Italy). The main outcropping formation is characterized by a clayey-sandy Pleistocene sequence in which four calcarenitic bodies are present. The regional and local geology is dealt with in the first part of the paper along with the lithostratigraphic and structural setting of the area characterized by a broad syncline with an approximately EW axis. Then attention is turned to the textural characteristics and the causes producing the decay of the calcarenitic facies.
