The STACK play in Oklahoma (USA) is one of the largest and most important unconventional resource plays in the United States. Newfield Exploration discovered it in 2011 and announced it to the public in 2013. The name STACK has a twofold meaning: (1) it is a play of stacked reservoir benches; and (2) it is an acronym that means “Sooner Trend Anadarko (Basin), Canadian, and Kingfisher (Counties).” This oil and gas play is located northwest of Oklahoma City, and it is part of the geologic province of the Anadarko Basin.
