Brazil’s oil and gas exploration and production have experienced a significant increase in activities since 1997 through the opening of competitive bid rounds by the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum. This has enabled discoveries in the postsalt of Campos and Espirito Santo Basins and the major presalt discoveries in the Santos Basin, first announced in 2006. Exploratory thinking integrating geophysical, geochemical, and geological data sets along with significant technological progress were other major contributors to the unlocking of these vast resources.
