The source-to-sink system comprises all areas that contribute to erosion, transportation, and deposition of sediments within an erosional-depositional system. The source-to-sink system is often described in terms of its dynamic drivers producing unsteady (allogenic) and steady (autogenic) responses during the erosion, dispersal, and deposition of sediment, and not least the responses in the accumulated stratigraphic record. Previous studies have carefully examined sedimentary systems across a range of temporal scales from the perspective of sediment production in source, storage in sinks, and linkage between them.
