Diamond bearing, kimberlite pipes in the Central Zone of the Limpopo Belt, Limpopo Province, South Africa were discovered on the Farm Venetia in the late 1970’s. These ~530 to ~519 Ma pipes constitute a world class ore body, with a historic head grade (since 1992) varying between ~100 and ~135 carats/100 tonnes. They presently produce about ~40% of South Africa’s diamonds and hence ~6% of the total world’s.
