The authors have produced a semi-popular account of the geological history of Edinburgh and the Lothians, defined as the area north of the Southern Uplands and eastwards from the Bathgate Hills. They extended this area a short distance into the Scottish Borders, to include the world-famous Hutton's unconformity at Siccar Point. The book should be understandable by anyone who has completed a first-year university geology degree course, as well as more knowledgeable amateur geologists. Overall the book is generally well-produced and copiously illustrated. However, the colour balance of a few photographs, particularly Figures 7.1, 8.3 and 10.8, is seriously awry....
