A field guide to a single igneous complex and aureole is rather more focused than many other available field guides to Scottish geology. Consequently the guide contains just 5 days of field excursions. Imposing such limits is a potentially risky strategy. However, the strategy is successful in no small part because the geology is of the area is outstanding; it is quickly apparent that the authors have gone for quality rather than quantity.
