Landsliding is the most widespread natural hazard in the Three Gorges region of China. The occurrence of landslides can lead to relocation of towns, blocking of roads, and casualties as a result of the destruction of houses and factories. This paper outlines the main landslide types encountered in Wushan–Zigui, and some of the more catastrophic slope failures to have occurred in the area in recent years.
