Summary
The creation in 1972 of a simple computer database for Greater London has enabled rapid assessment of geological conditions to be carried out. The use of the database for an appraisal of tunnelling conditions for potential underground road and rail routes is described. In terms of computer technology, the system described uses well established techniques but the ground investigation examples draw attention to the merits of employing database management and surface analysis software libraries.
