Cover: A cloudy afternoon and a filtered ray of sunlight illuminating exposures of the Carnian Los Rastros Formation in Argentina. The lower illuminated outcrop rim shows the progradational stacking pattern that extends for over 500 m thick deposits of black, gray, green, and yellow mudstones and yellow limestones of lake center and lake margin facies to yellow sandstones of delta facies. The outcrop rim in the back is formed by the overlying Ischigualasto Formation fluvial deposits. The Los Rastros 5-Ma-long-lived deltaic-lacustrine system formed during the extension of the Ischigualasto-Villa Unión rift Basin in SW Gondwana and during part of the Carnian Pluvial Episode. See “Tectonically conditioned record of continental interior paleoclimate during the Carnian pluvial episode: The Upper Triassic Los Rastros Formation, Argentina” by Benavente et al., p. 60–80.
