Cover: Red sands of the Jurassic Page Sandstone are exposed under blue sky near the formation’s namesake, Page, Arizona. This ancient aeolian sandstone preserved the passage of many large dunes in a mature dune field, recording a time when Sahara-like deserts were present in North America. Well-defined cross strata show the curvature of ancient lee faces on the dunes. Sets stack to form a pseudo-layered sequence recording the evolution from smaller to larger dunes. Similar outcrops are suggested to be present on Mars in work by Day and Catling in this issue. See “Potential aeolian deposition of intra-crater layering: A case study of Henry crater, Mars” by Day and Catling, p. 608–616.
