Abstract

The Peru-Chile Trench and the Andes present perhaps the greatest relief known on earth. It seems, however, that climate, rather than continental relief, rate of uplift, or structure, was the major control over the rate of sedimentation. The climate factor should be given greater consideration in interpreting the sediments of geosynclines.
