Session of Tuesday, December 28

The Society was called to order by President Edward Orton at 2.30 o’clock pm, in the lecture-room of the Peter Redpath Museum, McGill University. Mr George Hague, of the Board of Governors of McGill University, made a felicitous address of welcome, to which President Orton made a brief response.

The administrative business of the session was introduced by the report of the Council, which was submitted in print as follows:

REPORT OF THE COUNCIL

To the Geological Society of America, in Tenth Annual Meeting assembled,:

The Council has held but one meeting during the past year. No meeting was held at Detroit, with a quorum, as three of the officers were in Russia at the International Geological Congress, and all the Councilors were in the field or otherwise prevented from attending. The determination of matters essential to the Winter meeting was made by the President . . .
