Predictions of preferred orientations of quartz to be expected during syntectonic recrystallization are made in terms of a recently proposed hypothesis. The new predictions are made considering combinations of slip mechanisms in various stress fields. Quartz maximum II is shown to represent stability in terms of combined basal and r or z slip. If r or z slip alone is important, maximum IV should be formed.
