Abstract

Seismic reflection studies along the Murray Fracture Zone between California and Hawaii show a thin sedimentary cover averaging about 50 m in thickness. Paleomagnetic stratigraphic analyses of sediments in cores taken in the region indicate a sediment accumulation rate of 1.3 mm/103 yrs for at least the past 0.69 m.y.
