A model for the effect of a shallow confined aquifer on the soil temperature shows that geothermal heat is redistributed by the moving water. A comparison of the model with field data suggests that in the case studied about 10 percent of the geothermal heat was being redistributed. The quantity of geothermal heat redistributed by moving water in a shallow aquifer depends on the velocity of fluid movement and the thermal properties of the rock-fluid complex.
