Abstract

The chemical data of the Precambrian igneous rocks in Surinam are worked out according to the method of Niggli. These data also allow for comparison with neighboring French Guiana, according to the method of Choubert. The granites belong to the calc-alkaline suite, Pacific Province. They are subdivided into specific mineralogical types with a characteristic chemical composition, showing a relationship with the mineralogy and chemistry of the original host rock. The influence of host rock composition on the final composition of the granitoid rock is clear in the case of Granite 2, for which an anatectic origin is suggested. The plotted data indicate the granites in Surinam and French Guiana are similar but not correlative, based on Choubert's method.
