Abstract

This paper describes a simple and rapid method, based on a random-sampling technique, for obtaining hypsometric curves of basins. The method can be employed to any desired precision, and when it is compared with conventional methods, it reduces the time for obtaining the curves by a factor of from 4 to 10. The technique may be used for measuring most basin properties that involve areal measurements.
