Abstract

The Mattapan Volcanic Complex is dated as late Mississippian, and younger sediments as no younger than earliest Pennsylvanian. Analogy is suggested to the volcanic sequence and structure of the Horton and Windsor formations in Nova Scotia. This age is believed inconsistent with a glacial origin for the Squantum “tillite.” The structure is interpreted as fault block, complicated by later Appalachian orogeny.
