Abstract

Submarine bedrock of the Virgin Rocks area of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, lat. 46°25' N., long. 50°49' W., resembles some of the upper measures of the Conception Group, of Precambrian age, which crop out on the Avalon Peninsula, eastern Newfoundland.

The structure of the area is probably reflected by north-south ridges which show on the echo-sounder. On the sea floor, small local folds accompanied by shearing, appear to be superimposed upon easterly dipping strata.
