Abstract

The ARL electron-probe microanalyzer demonstrates high Al2O3 content in enstatite augen in high-temperature peridotite and low Al2O3 content in recrystallized enstatite. The enstatite augen are zoned in Al2O3 content; values are low at the margins, and this decrease is synchronous with or postdates the deformation of the enstatite. The decrease in Al2O3 content in the recrystallized enstatite is correlated with a large change in load pressure during emplacement of the peridotite.
