A petrographic study of rocks dredged from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge by the research vessel, Atlantis, in 1947 and 1948 shows that olivine basalt and basalt are the most common rock types of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Serpentinite, derived from peridotite, was obtained at four stations. A unique type of rock is composed of detrital serpentinite fragments in fossiliferous limestone.
