The measurement of stratigraphic sections, whether by tape and compass or by plane-table traverse, frequently yields data which must be calculated in terms of true thicknesses of beds.

The general formula for the calculation of thickness contains four variables. Tables are presented which facilitate this calculation. The use of the tables is illustrated by examples covering both surface and sub-surface problems.
