Abstract
The north end of the Taconic Range has been studied in order to clarify the structural and stratigraphic relations. The Taconic sequence correlates with that in the Vermont slate belt and in the Saratoga and Albany districts. Keith's sequence is rejected. The Taconic slates are thrust over the limestone-dolomite-slate series of the Champlain and Vermont valleys. On a large scale the rocks lie nearly flat, but intense small-scale crumpling occurs. Because of local juxtaposition of identical black slates of different ages, and perhaps because of post-fault metamorphism, the position of the Taconic thrust is locally obscure, but its existence is demonstrated.
