In the summer of 1936, Dr. Collins proposed a book on the geologic history of “The Canadian Shield”, under the joint authorship of specialists familiar with different parts of the region, and prepared an “experimental draft” of a table of contents. Following this proposal, it was arranged that the book should be prepared by W. H. Collins, Morley E. Wilson, T. L. Tanton, Andrew Leith, and C. K. Leith.
At the time of Dr. Collins’ untimely death, he had prepared a preliminary draft of a chapter of this book on “The Timiskaming Sub-province”, which presented such a good review of this part of the pre-Cambrian Shield as to warrant publication by itself, particularly in view of the probability that publication of the proposed book might be considerably postponed.
The manuscript has been edited only to the extent of eliminating cross references to other parts . . .
