A joint session with Section B (physics), C (chemistry), and F (zoology) of the American Association for the Advancement of Science was held preliminary to the formal opening of the meeting of Section E. This meeting was called to order at 9 :30 o’clock in Culbertson Hall, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, by T. Wayland Vaughan. A symposium on modern oceanographic research was presented.
